Desert Diamond Industries' 2016 Safety Blade Summit

Desert Diamond Industries held its first Safety Blade Summit at its Las Vegas, NV headquarters on May 18, 2016. Over 30 members of the American Welding Society (AWS) received a safety briefing on the dangers of conventional abrasive wheels and a demonstration of the Ductile Iron Safety Blade and Safety Blade Grinder/Cutter.

So Why Did We Do This?

We held this summit because industrial workers like welders are being injured and killed by their blades. According to OSHA, workplace injuries from blades and grinders have been on the increase, as you can see in this chart.

Serious Cutting and Grinding Injuries, 1984-2013 (according to OSHA statistics)

Cutting and grinding injuries are on the rise, according to OSHA.

The vast majority of these injuries are caused by conventional abrasive blades and wheels, rather than superabrasive wheels like diamond blades and grinders.

Serious Cutting and Grinding Injuries by Blade, 1984-2013 (according to OSHA statistics)

Cutting and Grinding Deaths by Blade, 1984-2013 (according to OSHA statistics)

Most on-the-job injuries and deaths from blades and grinders are caused by conventional abrasive wheels, not superabrasives like diamond wheels.

Desert Diamond Industries' mission is to ensure that all those using diamond and abrasive blades go home safe, through training, education, and by providing better products. That's why we gathered together members of the AWS - to show them that there's a better alternative to the dangerous, dirty conventional abrasive wheels that they may use right now.
