Phoenix AZ -Pipe Fab Supervisor

Rich, Here's the info I have for the grinding wheels that we have been testing in the Pipe Fab Shop. I support everything about them but, at present I can't give you an actual cost savings over the wheels we use to have, only because we have not worn out the one wheel we have been testing. As of today we would have gone through 16 of the old type wheels. My guess is we are half way through the life of one side of the test wheel. If the life of the new type grinding wheel is the same as 64 of the old type wheel the cost would be just about half as much. The best part being we will not have the dust of the 64 old wheels in our lungs. That make the deal good

I recently had a chance to test the blade you sent us. Although I had been a skeptic when it comes to these blades for fire service application I was quite impressed. The first and most important thing I liked was the one piece construction. This means that there is almost no chance of injury due to segment loss. The blade is also very forgiving to users not as experienced as others. There is less kickback, and due to the width of the cutting surface, and abrasive surface on the side of the blade, there is a lot less binding when the saw is twisted during operation. There is also a lot less blade walk when cutting hardened steel such as locks and locking devices. The versatility of the blade is also a plus for fire service application. Having the ability to cut both concrete and steel reduces the amount of saws needed on fire apparatus. When used properly the cutting speed is comparable to composite blades. Due to the solid construction there seems to be less user fatigue because you are not compensating for a reduction in blade size when cutting. In my opinion this blade is a safe, reliable and versatile cutting tool that is a great asset to any fire department, forcible entry arsenal.

An honest account of how we feel your product will work out in the field; I feel that you have a great product that will be an asset to the fire service... . I like your product, and having tested just about every diamond blade introduced to the fire service, yours is the only one we have agreed to give a testimonial. Please give me a call with any questions.

*** Update ** March 6th 2010

I just wanted to say a couple more things about the Vacuum Braised Safety Blade. I have been using it since September of 09 and it is still going strong. We have it on a Partner 950 saw and it really cuts great. We have had hundreds of students use the blade cutting mostly steel and it is still cutting. I also like the fact that hardly any sparks come from the blade when cutting steel. In some instances we have burnt holes in firefighting gear with sparks from the aluminum oxide blades. I also like the fact there is no aluminum oxide dust to worry about. No dust, hardly any sparks and the fact it is one piece construction make this the safest blade I have ever used. We use this blade a lot more than most fire departments would ever use so it is very cost effective compared to the abrasive disks. If matched with higher power saw such as the partner 950 this could be the last forcible entry blade some fire departments would ever have to buy. We have a full class schedule this year and I will give you more feedback as I get it. Thanks for producing a great product.

"I Just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with our purchase" .... "I ordered 2 - 14" Safety Blades. I used the blade today on 6" cast iron water pipe, 1" square solid steel spindle and 6" C-900 water pipe, an amazing blade!

Update 09-21-2010

We have taken your blade and have cut ductile iron pipe, C-900 pipe, cast iron pipe, A/C pipe, concrete sidewalk, pavement, steel spindles and we lent our saw to the mechanics and they rebuilt the under carriage of a cat crawl, cutting plate steel, flat iron and schedule 40 & 80 pipe. We are still trying to wear out this blade. We are well into the second year, the side grit for beveling is pretty well gone but the cutting diamonds look almost new, showing very little wear. The aggressiveness, the smooth cutting and the longevity of this blade is simple amazing.

"We determined the blade will give us somewhere between 5-6 months daily usage, which saves us quite a bit over the composite blades in initial cost and labor, "We have a more efficient job site now because we don't have down time of changing all the abrasive blades. "On a 16 inch main repair we had to change abrasive blades 6-8 times which takes about 5 minutes each time, now your blade stays on the saw till the saw falls apart, "The blades are fantastic, We have used them to cut street car rails, concrete, C-900 and concrete lined steel pipe.

"The safety of the blade is great, "Not having concerns about it blowing apart like the composite blades makes one less thing we have to worry about. "Not to mention they cut down on sparks and dust"

The grinding wheel performs very well when removing heavy amounts of material and is very durable. I would say that it works best for heavier removal of material when a nicer finish is not desired. It seems to be a well-made product that works well for what is suited to.

In general your vacuum brazed product will last much longer a create less dust then conventional abrasive blades. I feel that an iron working contractor engaged in decking will find your blade very useful lots of savings in changing out the abrasive blades which wear out very quickly and due to the size it should stay on the saw and be less likely to be lost or stolen.

4/8/10 James S. Gallik - Apprentice Coordinator, Local #3 Pittsburg

Your product Vacuum Brazed grinding discs are 75% more effective than our common abrasive blade and has a definite plus for heavy removal of steels. In addition I agree that it is not probable that it will explode in operation like abrasive blades do, produces 90% less sparks and dust which keeps our shops cleaner and is a very earth friendly, green product.

Desert Diamonds Safety Blade out performs the Diamond Advantage blade in many areas, it gets the job done quicker , with less effort, has relief holes for cooling and makes a wider cut so wont bind as easily plus their Life Time Operator Error Warranty is unheard of. We tested for over 2 hours straight on metal beams, flat stock, re-bar, concrete, block, schedule 40 and schedule 80 steel pipe.
